Course of study: Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration (Honors)
150 hr course in TEFL: As part of my primary degree programme in university I chose to take three modules in TEFL. It helped me to become more confident and gave me more knowledge on the best ways and methods to use when teaching English as a second language. I had always planned on travelling and teaching after my degree and knew that this certificate would be of great benefit to me.
Working History
• GE Capital Aviation Services (Shannon, Co. Clare) September 2004- June 2005: I worked as a finance intern with the Accounts Department as part of my Co-op education placement in college. It involved doing general duties for the finance department including setting up vendors, filing bank records and using various computer programmes such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Office, Oracle ADI etc.
• The International School of Choueifat (Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) August 2007- June 2008: I worked as an English and Social Studies teacher for a Grade 3 and Grade 4 class. I really enjoyed this experience and realized that teaching was a very enjoyable and rewarding job. The methods used in the UAE were very strict and many of which were very beneficial, I felt that many of these methods could be incorporated into a more relaxed classroom atmosphere.
• Allied Irish Bank Capital Markets-(Dublin) August 2008-June 2009.Capital Markets- Corporate Operations Department
I Worked as a member of the Payments Team. Responsible for inbound and outbound calls with various branches. Data entry of NBP waste, Exact waste and reports on a daily basis. I assisted outgoing transactions of payments and swift payments. I also dealt with customer enquiries on outstanding accounts etc. on a daily basis. Time management was a very important area in this job as we were under lots of different constraints with the different currencies cut off times.
• Sunflower Language School (Daegu, Korea) I completed a one year contract at a privately owned kindergarten, teaching children between the ages of four and seven. The experience I had from the UAE really helped me and I was a lot more confident and given the freedom to plan and structure my classes a lot more. It was a really great experience and I gained a lot of experience and knowledge from my co teachers and the school.
