Sungshin Women’s University - English Writing and Conversation Instructors Needed in Seoul – Spring 2012



The Department of GeneralWomen'sEducationUniversityatSungshinis looking for friendly, experienced, committed and qualified non-tenure track full time instructors. We currently have 20 native instructors from 6 different countries and we are looking to add valuable members to our team. Positions open:



- 3 full-time instructors – one of these positions requires an applicant who will teach regular General Education classes as well as a Business English course. Qualifications:



-Applicants must be native English speakers from a visa compliant country



-Applicants should have an MA / Ed. M or a higher degree in TESOL, Education, Linguistics or other English-related subjects.



-Applicants must have experience teaching university or adult academic and / or practical writing



-For the Business English position: Applicant must have Business English teaching experience; a background in business is a plus (i.e. business degree or MBA), experience preparing students for the Cambridge BEC exam (Business English Certificate) is an even bigger plus.



Duties:



-Teach a minimum of 12 credit hours per week (up to 15 maximum hours depending on semester demand and scheduling) of our department’s two mandatory freshmen courses – English 1 (Speaking & Listening) and English 2 (Reading & Writing)



-Participate in course & materials development (particularly course book evaluation) and maintain a minimum of 9 office hours each week (for class preparation, marking, grading and teamwork / meetings)



-Participate in all faculty meetings, seminars, school festivals, school ceremonies, and workshops including the planning meeting 1 week prior to the start of the semester



-Conduct mentoring sessions with enrolled students during office hours



-Run a study group for 1 hour/week for two months each semester for students to practice using English



-Teach courses in the Language Center as needed



Terms of Contract:



-Contract will be renewed on an annual basis based on objective evaluation results and other performance criteria deemed important by the Dean and department management



-12 contract hours (hours taught over 12 are paid as overtime)



-Annual salary will be approximately 35 million to 42 million won (plus overtime payment for class hours taught beyond 12 hours) depending on educational background and university-level teaching experience (fixed pay brackets have been established)



-Paid summer and winter holidays (typical university holidays)



-Health insurance and Private Pension Fund contribution is provided as required by law



No on- or off-campus housing and no subsidy for housing.

-A 15 week sample syllabus for students with over 700 TOEIC scores – this should include a course title, recommended materials, basic class content and assessment methods.



-One outline for an idea that could be used as a study group / club activity for students to participate in and practice using English (fluency development activity). This runs 1 hour a week.
